Whenever I’d put on something sexy like that, I’d watch to see how long it took my boyfriend to figure out what I was wearing. My outside clothing, just regular attire, didn’t even hint at the excitement I wore underneath. But if he looked closely, really paying attention, he could undress me with his eyes by finding and following the seams up my legs. To wear lingerie that works for you, no matter your body type, you have to have the right mind-set, that is, you must appreciate your curves, your feminity, your sexuality. Not all women look seductive in lingerie. They've got all the same parts, so what's the difference? If they've learned to stigmatize anything sexy as dirty, whorish, cheap, and loose, putting lingerie on, even for their husband, is uncomfortable mentally and even physically and that discomfort manifests in how they look in lingerie. So loathe are they to actually buy anything sexy, that they purposefully buy the cheapest thing and then have to endure its scratchy lace and disproportionate fit. By believing it’s not worth it, they make it so.
What I love about lingerie is that it can be fun and functional. It can be an invitation for hot sex or your support and style all day and into the night, if need be. It can be something comfortable to lounge or sleep in, all the while reminding the man in your life that you’re soft, sexy, pretty and feminine, regardless of what you do for a living. Especially if your profession or career isn't especially feminine, wearing sensual apparel reminds you of your femininity, and keeps you from becoming one of the boys.
Lingerie can and should be worn through all the phases of a woman’s life. Women lose their interest in lingerie, especially after becoming mothers, but I believe that is when it is especially important.
I wore a mesh night shirt during my first pregnancy. With long full sleeves that ended in ruffles at the wrist, the cut was a simple A shaped top with a unadorned scoop neck. A spaghetti strap belt was worn at the waist or not at all. That single piece of lingerie was essential in keeping me feeling desirable, even in my 8th and 9th months of pregnancy.
