Sex Toy Advice

Today’s erotica industry still does not include sex toy advice or care instructions with their products. It’s almost as if they are embarrassed to say exactly how to use the product correctly.

They’d have to describe how to stimulate the labia, clitoris, clitoral hood and g-spot as well as all manner of male genitalia, and that is language essentially too hot for the sexually insecure censors.

So instead, they don’t use any language. They let you figure it out on your own. Sometimes that works. Other times, it leaves you frustrated and not willing to try again. Had some sex toy advice been included by the manufacturer every action may have gone a littler smoother, worked out a little better.

Universally important when using a sex toy is using the proper lubricant. Since most women’s orgasms are clitoral and the clitoris doesn’t lubricate on its own, lubricant becomes essential. Generally, water-based is the way to go.

Silicone lubricant is fine on most adult toys but should never be used on a silicone vibrator or dildo or you will destroy it. It is only recently that manufacturers have started including some information, but even now, their suggestions are vague, and sometimes totally misleading.

Although every manufacturer includes the type of batteries you’ll need, some are difficult to find such as ‘Size N’ or ‘watch batteries’.

I personally like toys that have a built in charger, like the We Vibe 2 or Lady Carlston’s Tongue. You pay a little more up front, but you save in the long run by not wasting hundreds of dollars in batteries. I wish the industry would develop more of these earth friendly designs.

Sometimes battery size is indicated by the shape within the battery case but not always. You may see the shape of a double A, but if the case can accommodate a size C, that’s the one you use.

Proper cleaning instructions are not specific and often manufacturers will suggest warm water and soap, a hazardous suggestion, especially if that toy is going to be used on the inside of the vagina.

Soaps tend to leave a residue. Rubbed up against the very delicate ph of the vagina, that residue wreaks havoc. Infection, itch and irritations are the repurcussions.

Wash porous toys with an antibacterial adult toy cleaner to kill all the germs without drying out the material. When cleaned properly, you keep it brand new.

Take care not to immerse any electrical components during cleaning. Even waterproof vibrators must have their caps snugly screwed on so the electrical components are protected. Dry thoroughly and store away from moisture or heat.

I like to store each of my toys in a separate freezer or sandwich bag, depending on its size or shape. This keeps them easily recognizable and makes sure that they don’t come in contact with one another. Adult toys tossed carelessly into a drawer will destroy themselves and any other toy they come in contact with. Humans coming together is good; toys coming together in storage, not good.

I keep their batteries inside the zip lock bag as well, but never stored inside the toy. That causes battery leakage, another common destroyer of adult toys.

Often manufacturers are so busy making their toy sound fun that they forget that directions may be needed--how to use it. By not offering any sex toy advice, they are suggesting that no knowledge is necessary. This is a disserve to the customer and also to the erotica industry. Not everything is self explanatory.

I believe that if a customer has a less than satisfying experience with a sex toy, often they believe that such things don’t work! The fact that they didn’t know the finer details, or that there could possibly be some instructions necessary, eluded them.

Also not included is sex toy advice so you won’t accidentally destroy the material or mechanics. Is that because the manufacturers want you to destroy your toy so you’ll buy another? I would hope not.
